9th Global Procurement Summit (GPS 2024)
AIMA organized its Global Procurement Summit in partnership with the Government of India and The World Bank on 8th-9th February at Le Meridien Hotel, New Delhi. The theme for the Event was- ‘Procurement: Enabler for Sustainable Development’.
Day 1 witnessed an active and enthusiastic participation of delegates and the procurement community, both national and international.
The Inaugural Session was addressed by Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, Advisor, PPD, Dept of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance; Ms. Anna Wielogorska, Regional Procurement Manager (South Asia), The World Bank; Mr. Hideki Mori, Manager (Operations-India), The World Bank; Mr. S Krishnan, I.A.S, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT, Govt. of India; Mr. Nikhil Sawhney, President, AIMA, VC & MD, Triveni Turbine Limited and Ms. Rekha Sethi, Director General, AlMA. The Vote of Thanks was offered by Prof (Dr)Rohit Singh, Director, AIMA.
The Session discussed the efforts of the procurement community to set sustainability goals, engage stakeholders, and build capacity to drive continuous improvement towards a more sustainable future.
A souvenir was also released on the theme of the Event, at the end of the Session.
Session 1 on ‘Government initiatives on maximizing economic development through procurement’ was addressed by Mr. Vinay Kumar Singh, MD, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC); Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal; Mr. Subramanian Krishnan Sangaran, Principal Accountant General, Rajasthan , India, Mr. Ghansham Bansal, Dean, Delhi Metro Rail Academy and Ex CVO, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd and Mr. Ranjay Sharan, Director (Project), NPCIL. The Session focused on the government’s efforts on harnessing the power of procurement to drive economic development, support small businesses and advance sustainability goals, ultimately benefiting society as a whole.
‘Boosting national economy through MSME development and local value addition in public procurement’ was the theme for Session 2, which was efficiently addressed by Mr. Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary, Ministry Of Heavy Industries; Ms. Rukmani Attri, Joint Development Commissioner, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India; Dr Sanjiv Layek , Executive Secretary WASME and Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager (Contract Services), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The Session elaborated on how by prioritising MSME development and local value addition in public procurement, the government can catalyse inclusive economic growth, support sustainable development and build diversified economies that benefit all stakeholders.
Day 1 ended with Session 3 on- ‘Digital Transformation, Innovation in Procurement as a growth driver in Economy’ that was addressed by Mr. Prakash Mirani, Addl. CEO and Chief Marketplace Officer Services, Government eMarketplace (GeM); Ms. Usha Saxena, Senior Director (IT), NIC, MeitY, Government of India; Mr. Aashish Banati, Deputy Controller, MeitY. The panellists talked about digital transformation and innovation having the potential to drive economic growth by improving efficiency, enhancing transparency, promoting sustainability, and building resilience in procurement.
Day 2 of AIMA’s Global Procurement Summit on the theme- ‘Procurement: Enabler for Sustainable Development’ at Le Meridien Hotel, New Delhi witnessed an equally enthusiastic participation of delegates from the procurement community.
The day started with a refreshing Keynote Address by Mr. Anil Kishora, Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, New Development Bank (NDB). He spoke about how procurement serves as a powerful enabler for sustainable development by integrating environmental, social, and economic considerations into purchasing decisions.
Soon after, winners of the AIMA-ICRC Case Study Competition on Procurement were announced-
1st Best Case Study-- Unified Shared Services Centre: Leveraging Advantages of Centralized Procurement in NTPC

Session 4 on- ‘Green Public Procurement for mitigating climate change’ was addressed by Ms. Anna Wielogorska; Mr. Tanmay Tathagat, Executive Director of the Environmental Design Solutions ; Mr.. Vipul Mishra, Senior Development Specialist, JICA) and Dr Srikanta K. Panigrahi, Director General, IISD. The Session focused on how by prioritising environmentally friendly options, setting ambitious sustainability standards and promoting innovation, GPP can help the government achieve their climate goals.
‘Socially Responsible Procurement to build a more inclusive economy’ was the theme for Session 5, addressed by Dr Prasad Modak, Managing Director, Environmental Management Center Pvt Ltd; Mr. Vishal Gupta, Executive Director, Deloitte; Mr. Shanker Lal, Mr. Kanwalpreet, Director, PPD, Dept. of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, GoI and Mr. Chilakapati, Regional Executive Director, NTPC. The Session spoke about SRP’s contribution in creating an economy that supports diverse suppliers, promoting fair labour practices, fostering local economic development, ensuring inclusivity.
The final Session on- ‘Procurement Reforms: Transforming the Nation’ was a Panel Discussion between Mr. Vinay Sharma, Ex-Director, The World Bank; Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, Mr. Stephane Bessadi, Senior Procurement Specialist, Asian Development Bank; Mr. Ashutosh Vajpeyi, Joint Secretary (Economic Affairs), Finance Department, Government of Rajasthan; Mr. E. A. Rathnaseela, Director General, Department of Public Finance, Government of Sri Lanka. The Panellists discussed about how procurement reforms have the potential to transform the nation by fostering economic development, encouraging sustainability and building capacity in procurement practices.
The Event concluded with Dr. Gurbandini Kaur offering a Vote of Thanks to all the Speakers and delegates for making the Summit a grand success.
